Extreme site clearance in stoke-on-trent

Project Details

Project: Site Clearance at Stoke-on-Trent College

Location: Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire

Date: June 2021, 4 weeks

Client: Asbestos Essentials

Price: £40,000

Countryside Demolition were contacted to provide site clearance to an extremely messy site. Previously the site had been a three story science block for Stoke on Trent College. Unfortunately, the previous demolition contractors pulled the building down without performing a strip out and without much care. This lack of care meant we inherited an incredibly messy site that need to be sorted.

The site area was fairly generous enabling a good amount of movement and for a lot of 40 yard skips. The very first task was to make a space that was actually workable. Luckily, we had our trusty 13t excavator delivered to site promptly at 9am. Using the 13t excavator with a grab attachment we gradually started to make a dent into the rubble. As we went along we made distinct piles of materials, metal, plastic, wood and general waste. We then loaded each of the piles into the appropriate skips using a tele-handler.

We had 2 men using the 13t excavator and making materials piles on one end of the site. However, there was a bigger problem on the other end.

On the northern half of the site there was a significant amount of the superstructure still remaining. As a result, We had to hire an additional 20t excavator with a hefty pulveriser to break through the remaining structure. The work was simple, we would go through gradually clearing the site of as much material as we could. After two weeks we had just finished the manual work of sifting through material and had filled up a considerable amount of 40 yard skips.

The next step was crushing the remaining material into a useable hardcore.

We started crushing at the northern end of the site and worked our way down. Crushing the materials was quite efficient using a hired and ultra modern crusher. Our main job was ensuring that there was limited scrap metal being put through so as to prevent blockages and keep to the agreed schedule.

This was a challenging site clearance but we got it done, on time and the client was happy with the end product.
